Ms Robinson told listeners: “This is really sad news about their nine-year-old black cocker spaniel Lupo.
“Interestingly, it took a while to confirm what Lupo was called.
“The name was kept under wraps for a long time until Kate let it slip during an engagement.
“The pool reporter at the time heard it and it was confirmed.”

She continued: “He was a wedding present from Kate’s brother James to the family.
“They said on Instagram that they’re very sad that their ‘dear dog Lupo had passed away’.
“They said that he has been at the ‘heart of the family for the past nine years’ and they will ‘miss him so much’.
“Through the years we’ve seen some really lovely pictures of the family, particularly George with Lupo.”

Mr Ship added: “There’s one of them all looking out the window with Lupo.
“There’s one of George feeding Lupo an ice cream on a blanket.
“Like any pet, he was very much the heart of the family.”

He told listeners: “No one can appreciate what it’s like to lose a pet until it’s your own.
“But I think for that particular family that was significant.”
William and Kate’s Instagram account, Kensington Royal, posted a picture of Lupo on November 23, announcing his passing.
The caption read: “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away.
“He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W & C”
