Meghan’s see-through skirt in New Zealand was her true Diana moment
MEGHAN Markle had a Diana moment as the Duchess of Sussex stepped out for an engagement in New Zealand wearing a skirt that appeared to be see-through, drawing comparisons to the famous picture of Princess Diana accidentally putting her legs on display in a transparent skirt almost 40 years ago.
Meghan’s legs appeared to be showing through her striped blue skirt as she greeted well-wishers during a walkabout with Prince Harry in Rotorua.
But the daring look was actually an optical illusion created by the Givenchy skirt, which featured different coloured vertical stripes.
The bold fashion choice diverted attention from pregnant Meghan’s growing baby bump, after the duchess announced she is expecting her first child with Harry as the couple landed in Sydney on October 15.
The move was a flashback to a young Diana, whose skirt became transparent in the light as she posed for a picture with two young children in 1980, ahead of her marriage to Prince Charles.
In the famous picture, Diana is wearing a white skirt, seemingly unaware that her legs were visible.
And it is not the first time Meghan has mirrored Diana on her Commonwealth tour.
Meghan wore a stripe dress with a thigh-high split which was sheer for a previous walkabout in Australia, revealing her pins as she and Harry attended the engagement on Fraser Island.
Meghan’s latest Diana moment came on the last day of her overseas tour with Harry, which has seen the couple visit Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.
Hundreds of royal fans gathered to see the duke and duchess for their final public walk.
Meghan wore a blue top by Givenchy and her trademark stiletto heels as she and Harry mingled with well-wishers.
The pair completed the last engagements of their tour in New Zealand yesterday and they are due to return to the UK today.
The royal couple have carried out 76 engagements during their busy 16 days away.
Harry and Meghan’s final stop on the tour was the Redwoods Tree Walk, just outside Rotorua.
The romantic couple, who are known for their public displays of affection, were pictured walking through the woods hand-in-hand as the tour drew to a close.
