Meghan’s family FEUD: Duchess makes SNEAKY comeback to father Thomas Markle in speech

MEGHAN Markle gave an empowering speech during her royal tour in Fiji, speaking about how she worked to pay for her own tuition fees in what could be seen as a sly dig at her father Thomas Markle, who claimed to have paid for her studies.

The Duchess of Sussex delivered a motivating speech to a group of women at University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, explaining the importance of education in developing countries.

Meghan told them about how she had worked a part time job on campus to pay for her university tuition fees at Northwester University in Illinois, where she studied theatre.

She said: “As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university.

“From the moment you receive your acceptance letter, to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for, the lifelong friendships you make with your fellow alumni, and the moment you receive your diploma.

“I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world – myself included.

“It was through scholarships, financial aid programmes and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition, that I was able to attend university.”

Her statement comes in a stark contrast to her father, Thomas Markle previous remarks, claiming how he had funded Meghan’s university education.

Mr Markle said he paid Meghan’s £23,000-a-year university fees with his £580,000 lottery winnings.

He previously told the Daily Mail: “When Meghan was 11, she moved back in with me up until she was 17 and went to college.

“I was having my good years then, making good money, and could afford to give her the best, with a good school, good education, good home.

“She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her.”

Social media users were quick to commend Meghan with many noting how the Duchess handled her speech with “grace” and “class”.

One wrote: “So much class the Duchess has.”

Another said: “She did just that. With such talent and grace, too.”

Meanwhile, one tweeted: “Always suspected Duchess of Sussex put herself through school with scholarships and the Thomas Markle fantasy about paying for it was just that.

“He, Samantha and Jr lied. No surprise. Meghan Markle followed in the steps of her mom Doria, a strong woman who raised another.”
