Meghan Markle’s ex plans will be a big pain for Meghan and Royals
As Meghan Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry heats up, so has interest in her ex-husband’s new royal TV show in Hollywood.
On Tuesday, Fox confirmed it is planning an untitled pilot from Trevor Engelson, Markle’s producer ex, and it looks to stir up some drama across the pond.
The half-hour single-camera comedy was described by producer 20th Century Fox Television with this logline: “Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British Royal family in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media is next level.”
The show is also being produced by Modern Family’s Danny Zuker, New Girl’s Jake Kasdan, and The Shannara Chronicles’ Dan Farah.
The project immediately raised eyebrows, with the assumption that Engelson was borrowing from his own life (although the Snowfall producer and Markle, who were married for two years, do not have any children together).
According to Deadline, “the comedy originated with Engelson and fellow producer Farah who, in a conversation, mused about what would’ve been if Engelson and Markle had kids and he had to share custody with the British Royal family one day.”
The palace will be thrilled.
News of the show comes as the Suits actress and Harry have stepped up their relationship in the public eye. After a year of dating quietly, Markle and her royal beau were hand-in-hand at the prince’s Invictus Games on Monday.
“I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news,” Markle told Vanity Fair. “And I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”
