Meghan Markle wants to ‘have a natural home birth in Windsor’

Meghan Markle will have a home birth making it the first one in 50-plus years after Prince Edward was born at Buckingham Palace in 1964, royal sources claim.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly a big advocate of home births, despite previous royal mothers giving birth in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London. However, the 37-year-old mother-to-be wants to have a paddling pool set up for her to give brith to her future daughter or son and the Duke of Sussex is said to be supportive her wishes. A source told Grazia: “She is a huge advocate of home births, but British royals are expected to give birth at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.

“Meghan doesn’t want what she calls a ‘medicalised’ birth, and instead wants to have a pool set up in a relaxing environment.

“Even Harry found this surprising, but Megs wants to ensure her birth is as natural as possible.”

Princess Diana broke the tradition of giving birth at home when she gave birth to both Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984 at the Lindo Wing.

If the speculation is true then Meghan could have a home birth at Frogmore Cottage, where the newlyweds are planning on moving to early next year.

The couple are said to be already drawing up plans for a baby suite and mother-in-law suite for Doria Ragland.

A source told Vanity Fair: “Doria plans to be around a lot when the baby arrives, and there are plans for her to have a dedicated space at their new home.

“She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby.

“Doria will be involved and if she’s involved she will encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.”

In a statement confirming the move, Kensington Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child.

“The couple has lived at Nottingham Cottage since their engagement last year.”

“Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.”
