MEGHAN MARKLE, 38, is the Duchess of Sussex and royals will traditionally spend Christmas with the Queen. However, it has been confirmed Meghan and Prince Harry, 35, will spend the holiday with the Duchess’ mother. Will they follow these American Christmas traditions?
Meghan Markle has been part of the Royal Family since marrying Prince Harry on 19 May 2018. Each year, the royals will attend a church service before spending time at Sandringham Estate. However, the couple are due to skip royal festivities to spend the day with Meghan’s mother.
For the last two years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spent Christmas with the Queen at her Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
This year, it has been confirmed they will spend time with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, 63, who lives in Los Angeles.
A statement from the palace read: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
Meghan and Harry have not confirmed whether they will spend Christmas in the UK or the states, but they may travel to Meghan’s hometown of California.
Christmas is sure to be a big celebration as they enjoy the first one with their son, Archie Harrison, six months.
Whether they spend it in the UK or America, the royals may choose to follow these American Christmas traditions.SD
Christmas dinner is usually a decadent meal and people in the UK and America will eat a similar meal of turkey.
However, while Britons will tuck into Christmas puddings and mince pies, traditional American desserts including pumpkin pie, pecan pie and coconut cake.
The day that the couple sit down for Christmas dinner could also differ if the royals spend it in the states.
In the US, it is common to have Christmas dinner on the 24th of December and have a smaller meal on Christmas day.

Although many Britons will pull Christmas crackers and wear paper hats around the table, this is not often done in the states meaning the royal couple may skip the tradition.
Although Christmas parades are kept to a minimum in the UK, they are a big tradition in the US.
In the Duchess’ hometown, boat parades take place which feature boats covered in Christmas lights and decorated with floats.

While many in the UK will wait until Christmas morning to open their presents, families in the US will often open gifts the night before.
In particular, adults may choose to exchange gifts on Christmas eve leaving children to open their presents on Christmas day.
This is similar to a tradition held by the Royal Family who reportedly open their gifts on Christmas eve.
As Meghan and Harry will be celebrating the first Christmas of Archie, it is likely they will celebrate Christmas with a mix of traditions from both of their families.
