Meghan Markle wedding dress could follow the style of Queen’s sister Princess Margaret
Meghan Markle’s wedding dress design could be inspired by the style of the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret when she marries Prince Harry in May, a bridal expert said.
Meghan’s style is boldly simple and she is not afraid to push the boundaries of royal protocol like the late Princess Margaret.
Margaret wore a silk organza gown by royal dressmaker Norman Hartnell when she married photographer Antony Armstrong the dress was described as “the simplest royal wedding gown in history” with crystal embellishments and beading kept to a minimum, although the skirt feature 30 metres of fabric.
In contrast the Queen’s wedding dress 13 years prior featured flower designs embellished with white crystals and pearls.
Siobhan Mulholland-Cox, from Cambridge Vintage Bridal, told the Express.co.uk: “I’d refer to Meghan’s look as ‘boldly simple’ and I think this will be her own personal brief for her wedding gown.
“If Meghan has been studying the Royal Wedding archives, I’d imagine she loves the late Princess Margaret’s wedding dress – yes, it’s of an era but it is still so timeless and breathtaking.
“I doubt she will go with such a full skirt and maybe the length of her dress will surprise us too.”
Emma Boycott from Maria Modes said Meghan also has to take into account past royal wedding dress designs.
She added: “Most notably Kate Middleton’s, our future Queen, who she wouldn’t want to look like she was emulating or over staging so she will be mindful of ensuring her design is not too similar or as grand.”
Fashion expert and designer Clare Quartermaine added: “We should expect a very different dress to Kate’s – so less lace.
“If I was to guess, it would be something similar to the dress in the engagement photos – a high neck neckline in sheer chiffon with embellishments, sheer sleeves and a full frothy skirt.”
Meghan may also follow Princess Margaret wedding hairstyle of an updo on her big day, according to celebrity stylist Jay Birmingham.

He told the Express.co.uk: “Her style is beautifully understated with an air of elegance and I think her hair will reflect this when she ties the knot. I think Meghan is likely to have her hair styled into a soft, romantic updo which would pair with a stunning diamond tiara.
“An effortlessly chic low bun is a classic style that will photograph well and will look elegant and tasteful whilst still remaining true to Meghan’s original style.
“I think Meghan will frame her face with some loose tendrils of hair to keep that ‘undone’ style we have come to love on her.
“If the bride-to-be chooses not to wear a tiara, I think she will opt for a soft and pretty jewelled hair piece that will look classic and graceful with her veil.”
