Meghan Markle To Have A Female Bodyguard Like Kate Middleton, Princess Diana?
Meghan Markle is expected to have a female bodyguard just like Kate Middleton.
According to The Sun, the royal family is currently hiring a bodyguard for the “Suits” alum. The recruit will join a team employed to also look out for Prince Harry, and he wants a woman to watch after his fiancée.
“Those in charge of security are hunting for an appropriate person,” a source told the publication.
In 2010, Middleton was assigned a female police bodyguard named Sergeant Emma Probert, right after she got engaged to Prince William. Middleton and Probert developed a close friendship with each other since they have been together for the past seven years.
“Kate has grown very close to Emma over the years. They hit it off from the start and have gone on to build up a great relationship. So it is expected that a new female bodyguard would learn the necessary ropes with Emma first,” the source said.
Probert, 45, is a member of Scotland Yard’s Protection Squad, and she is also trained in martial arts. Middleton’s bodyguard carries a pistol and a Taser gun especially when the Duchess of Cambridge is outdoor.
Meanwhile, there will be a trial and error hiring process for Markle’s bodyguard. “It would be a trial period to make sure she is the right woman for the job. And if so, she would then be transferred to Meghan and Harry’s team. The difficulty the team face is there are fewer female bodyguards available with the necessary skill-set than male bodyguards. But they are confident they can find someone to fit the bill,” the source said.
Whoever will be recruited as Markle’s bodyguard will be the fourth female protection officer to be hired by the royal family. The first one was hired as Princess Diana’s bodyguard. The second female officer guarded Prince Edward.
When asked to comment on the hiring process for Markle’s security, Kensington Palace declined to give any details. “We never comment on personal security,” a spokesperson said.
