Meghan Markle shuns ‘strict protocols’ as she makes a statement with her latest look

MEGHAN MARKLE’S hairstyle has got people talking this week. The Duchess of Sussex debuted a new look – but is she making an important statement with her new hair?

Meghan Markle has continued to make headlines since she and her husband Prince Harry upped and left for their new life in LA, despite wanting to leave for a quieter life. The couple have taken a step back from their royal duties and are following their own rules. In fact, some experts think their newfound freedom is already having an effect on Meghan’s look.

The Duchess of Sussex recently appeared in a virtual event as she spoke during the Girl Up 2020 Leadership Summit.

Meghan wowed her royal fans around the world with her bright cobalt blue top and a striking new hairdo.

The Duchess showed off her new waist-length hair, with a centre parting and layering around her face for a flattering shape.

But while the longer locks may be a result of having to steer clear of hairdressers during the coronavirus lockdown, it’s thought there could be a deeper meaning behind Meghan’s new hair.

Hairdresser George Northwood looked after Meghan’s locks when she joined the Royal Family.

The leading stylist has an impressive A-list clientele and was even the man behind Meghan’s beautiful evening hairstyle on her wedding day.

Northwood has commented on Meghan’s new hair – and suggested there could be more to it than meets the eye.

The hair expert spoke of how he used to style Meghan’s hair when she was performing her royal duties, and why this new look marks a real change for the Duchess.

George believed that the long, flowing locks represent Meghan’s new start away from the Royal Family.

“She’s making a statement with hair that long – it represents strength and a sense that she’s really got everything sorted,” he said.

“This straighter, longer hairstyle marks a new chapter in her life without such strict protocols.”

He also noted that the royal has never worn hair extensions – and that her hair looked incredibly strong and healthy in the video.

The new casual look is very different to the neat updos fans became used to seeing Meghan wear for public events.

She famously wore her hair in a soft “messy” bun for her wedding to Prince Harry, already veering away from tradition as she became part of the family.

But Northwood said it was a conscious decision to give her hair a more undone, relaxed style.

The hairdresser noted that as part of the Royal Family many of her looks had to be very “structured”, so the softer hair would “balance out the formal dress code”.

Commenting on her new, free-flowing locks, George told The Telegraph: “This sleeker blow-dried hairstyle works beautifully – it’s casual but still polished and appropriate for her new life.”

Meghan looked happy in the pre-recorded video as she addressed young women around the world.

She sported a natural makeup look for the appearance, with her usual soft eyeliner, glowing skin and neutral lips.

Some also believe she made a dig at her new family with her words in the speech.

“I want to share something with you,” she said in the video.

“It’s that those in the halls and corridors and places of power, from lawmakers and world leaders to executives, all of those people, they depend on you more than you will ever depend on them.

“And here’s the thing: they know this.

“They know that all of you, at a younger age than any modern comparison, are setting the tone for an equitable humanity. Not figuratively, literally.”

She urged women to push for a “more empathetic direction” and to “be in charge of the debate”.
