Meghan Markle ‘sent wedding rings back to first husband in the POST’ insiders claim
MEGHAN Markle shut the door on her first set of nuptials in brutal fashion – even returning her wedding band in the post – a sensational new book has claimed.
Andrew Morton revealed all about the star’s past – and how Trevor Engelson still goes into a “cold fury” at the mere mention of the actor’s name – in an extraordinary account.
Writing in ‘Meghan, A Hollywood Princess’ he said the Suits actress even took her kitchen blender back as her last marriage suddenly ended.
He wrote: “A wealthy entrepreneur friend claimed the marriage ended so abruptly that Meghan sent Trevor her diamond wedding and engagement rings back by registered mail.”
Of blender-gate, Mr Morton said: “She packed the blender into the backseat of her car even though it would have been just as easy to buy a new one.
“It sat on the kitchen counter of her Toronto house, a material reminder that her home was no longer in Los Angeles.”
Ms Markle, who married Mr Engelson in 2011, had been living apart from her then-husband since February 2013, as she moved from Los Angeles to Toronto, Canada, for a role in hit TV series, ‘Suits’.
Mr Engelson, 41, moved to New York to be nearer to Ms Markle – but work commitments were still too much.
Mr Morton said of the shock split: “It was such a surprise for Trevor that even at a distance of five years, he can barely contain his anger.
“The normally affable laid-back New Yorker switches gear from his usual, ‘Hi bro, how’s it going?’ to a cold fury when her name comes into the conversation.
“‘I have zero to say about her.’”
Mr Morton claimed Ms Markle’s interest had waxed and then waned towards Mr Engelson.
He added: “What once endeared now irritated.
“Meghan, a self-confessed perfectionist as fastidious as she was controlling, had tolerated Trevor’s scattered approach to life for years.
“He was notorious for arriving late, his clothes rumpled, his hair dishevelled, and often as not with a new stain on his jacket.
“‘Sorry bro,’ was a constant refrain as he hurtled from meeting to meeting, always just behind the clock.”
Meanwhile with Mr Engelson’s career stagnating and Ms Markle finding fame on her hit series, the star began to shift her focus from him.
Mr Morton claimed: “Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan, who once said she couldn’t imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself.
“As Toronto was becoming more her home than LA, the dynamics in their relationship subtly altered.
“She was her own woman now, earning a steady income, making new friends on set and off, no longer dependent on her husband’s connections.
“He was not the only one experiencing the Meghan chill.
“Her friends in Los Angeles noticed the change in her now she was on the way up.
“She no longer had the time for friends she had known for years, cancelling lunches at short notice or expecting them to rework their own schedules to accommodate the busy life of the rising star.
“A networker to her fingertips, she seemed to be carefully recalibrating her life, forging friendships with those who could burnish and develop her career.”
As the relationship soured, Mr Morton goes on to recall that Mr Engelson ended up going without Ms Markle to the Oscars in 2013 – as rumours swirled that the Suits hitmaker was herself in a relationship with New York Rangers Ice Hockey player Michael Del Zotto.
But “representatives for both Meghan and Del Zotto emphatically denied to the press that they were in a relationship.
“By then, Trevor and Meghan’s marriage was over.
“The sad news, in the summer of 2013, came as a bolt from the blue.”
Mr Morton’s book also contains testimonies from friends and confidantes of Ms Markle’s, who tell all about the soon-to-be-Royal’s relationship history.
One said: “The decision to end the marriage was made by Meghan and had come ‘totally out of the blue.’”
Ms Markle apparently fell out with her maid-of-honour, Ninaki Priddy, over the row too.
“After listening to Trevor’s side of the story, she decided she no longer wishes to associate herself with Meghan,” the book claims.
“Exactly why is a close-kept secret.
“As she described it, ‘All I can say now is that I think Meghan was calculated, very calculated, in the way she handled people and relationships.
“She is very strategic in the way she cultivates circles of friends.
“Once she decides you’re not part of her life, she can be very cold.
“It’s a shutdown mechanism she has
Ms Priddy said: “I knew they fought sometimes, but it wasn’t anything huge.
“The only obstacle was the distance – she was living in Toronto and Trevor was based in LA.
“I thought they were manoeuvring through it.
“Trevor would take his work to Canada to be with her and run his office remotely.”
Now Ms Markle is set to marry Prince Harry in May 2018 in a high-profile UK ceremony.
