MEGHAN MARKLE has had a rocky ride joining the Royal Family – but this could have been avoided if Princess Diana was still alive today, a royal expert suggested.
Dickie Arbiter, former press secretary to Charles and Diana, has suggested that Diana would have provided advice and support for the Duchess of Sussex. He told the Daily Mail: “Meghan has a past and a dysfunctional family. “She’s been married before and worked in a business that’s pretty fickle, so Diana would have put her at ease and told her not to take any notice, that she’d had the media all her life.”
He added that he thinks Meghan would have got on well with her mother-in-law and that Diana could have helped Meghan move more smoothly from showbiz into royalty.
He said: “Diana would have got on with Meghan.
“She knew the way the showbiz crowd worked and Meghan has come from that world.
“It’s very difficult to shed 15 years of being in showbiz overnight.

“It will happen in time and Diana would have been a good guide for her.”
Unfortunately, the Duchess will never have the chance to speak to the late Princess of Wales, due to her tragic death in 1997.
The princess died in a car crash in Paris over 20 years ago with her companion Dodi Fayed.
She was just 36 years old when she died, two years younger than Meghan is now.

Mr Arbiter suggested that there was one particular issue in which the Meghan could have benefited from Diana’s opinion.
He said: “Meghan’s baby shower probably wasn’t the right thing to do as far as presentation is concerned, so Diana might have been able to talk to Meghan about that.
“When Meghan went over to New York for it, it would have been better if she’d got on a British Airways flight as a normal passenger rather than a private jet.
“It smacks of being over the top.”

Meghan’s New York baby shower was widely criticised for being an unnecessary, lavish affair.
Held in The Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side, Meghan celebrated with 15 friends including fellow suits actress Abigail Spencer and Amal Clooney.
It was reportedly Mrs Clooney who paid for Meghan’s private jet across the Atlantic.
Former royal press secretary Patrick Jephson agreed that the baby shower was a “strange decision”.
He said: “In the royal business, particularly if you adopt a high profile, what counts is not the detail of the explanation but how it looks and how it fits into a pattern.”
Meanwhile, Mr Arbiter added that Diana could also have helped direct Meghan in terms of humanitarian issues in the UK and which charities to support.
Finally, he said Diana could have helped her daughter-in-law through the barrage of negative reports on her.
He said: “I think if Diana had been around she might have been able to help Meghan in, not so much combating negative media, but being a sounding board.
“Meghan probably talks to her mother but Diana would have been that friendly face on this side of the Atlantic.”
