Meghan Markle receives ‘endearing’ nickname from Charles after surviving family drama
PRINCE Charles has admired Meghan Markle’s “strength” in adjusting to her new royal life and is so fond of his new daughter-in-law that he has given given her an endearing nickname, insiders have said.
The new Duchess of Sussex has faced a number of trials and challenges since her engagement to Harry was officially announced last November, not least the dramas caused by members of her family in the lead up to the Royal Wedding.
Charles is said to have admired Meghan’s strength through it all that he affectionately dubbed her “Tungsten” because she is “tough and unbending” like the metal.
The name might not seem warm and fuzzy, but it is said to have come from a place of admiration from her father-in-law and the name has stuck.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: “Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softie.
“It’s become a term of endearment.”
And her father-in-law is not the only one who has praised the new Duchess of Sussex for her strength.
At a private evening reception following the Royal Wedding, the gushing groom Harry praised his new wife saying she had “navigated everything with such grace”.
His touching words came after his American bride was forced to endure a turbulent week in the lead up to her big day including comments from estranged family members as well as her father pulling out of the ceremony.
Just days before her nuptials Meghan issued a statement saying her father Thomas Markle would not be walking her down the aisle for the Royal Wedding.

The bride was forced to enter the church alone as millions of royal fans watched from around the world as her father recovered from recent heart surgery.
She was met halfway down the aisle by Charles who walked her part of the way.
Meghan appears to be adjusting well to her new royal life despite a minor moment of panic during her first official full day of engagements with the Queen.
The new Duchess looked overwhelmed and appeared to panic as she forgot protocol on the day.
Awkward footage shows Prince Harry’s wife looking around before she asks an aide for guidance on whether she should get into the car before or after the Queen.
After receiving no response from the aide Meghan resorted to asking her grandmother-in-law “what’s your preference?” before she was ushered to climb into the car first.
However, Meghan quickly brushed herself off from the blunder and was later seen with the Queen, who was in stitches over something the new Duchess had said.
