MEGHAN Markle stepped out for her final royal engagement of the year before retreating for the Christmas break. But some are wondering from the pictures, why is her baby bump so high up?
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, visited Brinsworth House, a nursing and care home for British entertainers run by the Royal Variety Charity on Tuesday. Amongst fellow actors, Meghan brought some Christmas cheer and showed off her growing belly. The Duchess is due in the spring, so the next time we see her in public she’ll have an even bigger bump to display.

Meghan, 37, was the picture of health in a white Brock Collection dress with a grey coat by Canadian brand Soia & Kyo.
Inside the home, Meghan was given a tour of the facilities and took part in some craft making.
When asked how she was by a resident, Meghan said: “Very good.” She paused, put her hand on her belly and added: “Very pregnant!”

Why is the bump so high up?
Old wives tales tell us carrying a baby high or low on your body hints at the baby’s sex, which in Meghan’s case would indicate she is carrying a girl.
However, this is only a myth.
Professor Steve Robson, the Vice President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, told the Huffington Post: “It’s clear to say that a child’s genitals has nothing to do with how the woman’s body looks when she is pregnant.
“The way a woman carries a baby has more to do with the size of the baby.”
Professor Robson said that if the baby is big, it’ll sit higher up.

“If the baby is smaller, it is more likely to be lower in the pelvis. So a baby that is larger than average is more likely to be higher, a smaller baby will be lower,” he said.
So it looks like baby Sussex might be a big baby.
Another cause of a high bump can be the mother’s body.
John Thoppil, MD, assistant clinical professor of OB-GYN at Texas A&M University College of Medicine said: “When a woman carries high, her abdominal muscles are often in good shape, while lax muscles from age, previous pregnancies or decreased fitness can cause her to carry low.”
We know Meghan is fond of yoga and is very healthy, so she might well have toned abs keeping the bump up.
That’s one of the last glimpses we’ll get of the growing baby royal this year.
Meghan and Prince Harry will head to Sandringham in Norfolk to celebrate Christmas with the Queen.
Kate and William, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their brood will also join in the festivities.
