Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘worried’ over losing taxpayer funded security – ‘earnt it’

MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry may feel “worried” about losing security funded by the taxpayer, as it has been claimed the former prince “needs protection.”

The subject of Meghan and Harry’s security team has been a topic of discussion for weeks after they announced their plans to step down from royal life. Whilst they were living between Canada and England since December, their team of reportedly 15 guards had been paid for by Canadian and British taxpayers.

But after Canada declared they would no longer foot the bill for their security costs, there have been questions as to who would be picking up the bill.

And they could find this “difficult to come to terms with”, it has been claimed.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Harry will find this difficult to come to terms with, the issue of security will be worrying them,

“They have to security guards, if the taxpayer won’t pay, Prince Charles will, Harry needs protection, he has earnt it, he did two tours of Afghanistan.”

The couple will now have to spend an estimated £4 million a year on security in their new Hollywood lifestyle.

The Sun has reported that Meghan and Harry are now looking to finance their own team of former SAS guards to watch over them, which would work out at £400 per operative a day.

Owner of US security firm Force Protection Agency, Russell Stuart told the Sun: “The US is a completely different place to Canada.

“There are more guns then there are people and just, in general, we have a higher level of crime which does make the move risky. Not that they couldn’t be safe here, it’s just a different environment.

“If Meghan is looking to get back into acting and is spending large parts of her day at a studio she will be very well protected there as they already have heavy security.

“My worry would be Harry. What is he going to be doing with his day? If he wanted to go for a jog, it would require a huge amount of planning.

“If he wanted to go anywhere for lunch, it would come with a huge amount of security issues. Hollywood’s paparazzi are relentless and it would need an almost presidential amount of security.

“It could go from 20 paparazzi to 200 people very quickly and would be a security nightmare.

“Famous people, unfortunately, cannot live normal lives and Harry will definitely never be able to do that here.”

It comes as President Trump tweeted he would not pay for the Sussexes security.

The pair responded: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

Although the pair have said they will cover the cost, Prince Charles will contribute to this as they “get on their feet” to pursue career income outside of the firm.

Money is most likely to come from the Duke of Cornwall’s personal funds, however, he has maintained that he does not have “inexhaustible” money for the couple.

Mr Stuart explained that although Meghan and Harry would prefer Trump to be out of their security matters, it is inevitable the government will be involved.

“Them moving here would need some co-operation with the Government because it would involve foreign security on foreign soil.

“To use a private firm would be complicated as you would not be granted the firearms license to move between states.

“Although Trump has said that he will not pay for their security it would be catastrophic for something to happen to them on US soil.

“They would need to be followed by a team of between two and six people with at least two cars plus a 24-hour team at home. Costing well into the millions.”
