Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hire President Reagan’s ex-security chief for LA protection

MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry have hired the services of President Reagan’s former security chief to protect them in America.

The royal couple have splashed out the cash to ensure they are provided with the best security money can buy. Round-the-clock protection for the Duke and Duchess is being provided by guards from the firm GDBA. The company is owned by 65-year-old Gavin De Becker, who worked for the Reagan administration.

Mr Becker’s company specialises in providing security for Hollywood’s A-listers and his services do not come cheap.

It is estimated he charges up to £7,000 a day for his bodyguards.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Harry and Meghan have full confidence in de Becker’s firm and they come highly recommended.

“They are the biggest security firm in LA and by far the most respected.

“They aren’t cheap, but if you want the best you have to pay for it.”

Mr De Becker boasts an extensive contact list of some of tinsel town’s most famous celebrities and personalities.

He is on good terms with Meghan’s friend Oprah Winfrey and was also a close friend of Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher.

Mr De Backer has dated numerous glamorous women, such as actress Geena Davis and singer Alanis Morissette.

They initially moved to Canada, before relocating to Beverly Hills.

The royal couple are currently living at Tyler Perry’s mansion, while they search for a new home.

Meanwhile, an Australian Republican activist has claimed that Megxit will hasten the demise of the British monarchy in Australia.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Australia back in October 2018, when Meghan revealed that she was pregnant.

The royal couple were a huge hit with the Australian public and helped boost the monarchy’s popularity down under.

Such was the impact that support for a Republic plummeted to a 25-year low, as Australians rallied to the Queen.

However, Meghan and Harry’s shock decision to quit the “Firm” has once again left the Royal Family’s future in Australia precariously hanging in the balance, as polls show a surge in support for a republic, particularly among young Australians.

Speaking to about Megxit Sandy Biar, the national director of the Australian Republican Movement, claimed it was a major boon to his organisation as it would lead to people questioning whether the Queen should still have a role to play in their country’s political life.

“Well, I certainly think it shines a light on the character of the monarchy.

“And again it gets people thinking about whether that is actually a relevant association or relevant thing for Australia now. Whether the British monarchy in Australia is relevant to Australians.

“If even members of the British monarchy say it’s not relevant to their lives anymore, then how could it possibly be relevant to Australians?”
