Will Sarah Ferguson be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding?
PRINCE HARRY and Meghan Markle are set to wed on May 19 next year, and as details of their are slowly unearthed, will all members of the royal family be invited – in particular, the ex-wife of Harry’s uncle Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson?
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, 58, was married to Prince Andrew, Duke of York, 57, between 1986 and 1996; despite their separation, the pair has remained close.
The second son of Queen Elizabeth II, 91, and the author, film producer and television personality reportedly still share a home – the Royal Lodge at Windsor – and have been regularly photographed spending quality time together along with their daughters Princess Beatrice of York, 29, and Princess Eugenie of York, 27.
Sarah appears to have kept her spot within the royal circle, but will she be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding?
Just a few months before Kate Middleton, 35, walked down the aisle, Fergie’s invite was still up in the air.
But on April 29 2011, Sarah was nowhere to be seen.
A month later, in an interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show, she revealed she fled the UK for Thailand after never receiving an invite to the wedding.
She said: “I was not invited, and I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia and…the jungle embraced me.”
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie attended the wedding with their father Prince Andrew.
Sarah also revealed on Oprah: “I wanted to be there with my girls and…to be getting them dressed and to go as a family.
“And also it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me.”
Michael Cole, former TV Court Correspondent for the BBC, said he thinks it is most unlikely Sarah will attend Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, especially as Prince Philip will be in attendance, his health and general condition permitting.
He said: “It is his practice to veto any suggestion that his former daughter-in-law be permitted to participate in any formal affair involving the Royal Family.
“I would expect Sarah to watch on the box from her residence in Windsor Great Park, her presence unrequited b protocol or the Royal Family, like the rest of us.
“After all, St George’s Chapel seats only 800 and it will be enough for Sarah Ferguson’s amour propre that her daughters and husband are present.”
A guest list is yet to be drawn up according to Michael, so who will be attending is yet to be revealed.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding date could mean this for the royal couple.
