Kate Middleton, 36, became the Queen’s grand daughter-in-law when she married Prince William and became the Duchess of Sussex.
However, she didn’t embark on her first engagement with the monarch until almost a year after her wedding.
Yesterday, Meghan Markle, 36, made her first solo appearance as a royal by the side of the Queen, less than a month after her nuptials to Prince Harry.
The Queen, who seemed in the best of spirits, presented Meghan with a lavish gift to mark the occasion – a stunning pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings.
But despite longer time passing before making her first solo appearance with the Queen than Meghan, Kate has also received opulent gifts from Her Majesty. But how do they compare to Meghan’s?
Kate Middleton: The Queen has given Kate many lavish gifts – how do they compare to Meghan Markle’s?
On her wedding in 2011, the Queen bestowed on Kate and William a present some couples will only dream of – their very own home.
The house sits on the Sandringham estate and has been completely renovated, providing the perfect spot for the family to escape to.
The couple lived at Amner Hall for two years before moving back to Kensington Palace, getting good use out of perhaps one of the Queen’s most generous gifts.
While Meghan received the stunning pearl earrings, that appear to be a smaller version of ones owned by the Queen herself, Kate has also been given lavish jewellery by the monarch.
Three months after her wedding, Kate embarked on her first tour, where she was spotted wearing the Queen’s own silver maple-leaf brooch on two different occasions.
Originally belonging to the Queen Mother, the broach was worn by Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on her first Canadian tour in 1939. Camilla was also spotted wearing the broach on her tour of Canada in 2009.
The Queen has also lent Kate countless priceless jewels from her own collection, including dangle diamond earrings and a very special necklace given to the Queen for her own wedding.
For a 2014 black-tie gala at the National Portrait Gallery, Kate wore the Nizam of Hyderbad necklace, featuring a astounding 38 diamonds and 13 emerald-cut diamonds, with a pear-shaped drop.
On another royal tour to New Zealand in 2014, the Queen showed her appreciation for Kate again by lending her a platinum fern brooch.
The Queen was gifted the brooch in 1953, with Kate wearing it twice on her own tour of the country.
Showing how close she is to her grand daughters-in-law, the Queen beamed as she visited Cheshire with new Duchess of Sussex Meghan yesterday, arriving by royal train.
According to People magazine, Meghan is the first of the younger generation of royals to ride on the royal train, showing how well she is being accepted into the Royal Family.
Meghan opted for an elegant cream Givenchy dress with cape shoulders, while Her Majesty wore a striking green coat by Stewart Parvin with a matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan.
As the Cheshire wind blew a gale, the stunning pair of pearl earrings given to Meghan were spotted.
Prince Harry’s new bride was snapped having a bonding moment with the Queen durning the engagement, with the two snapped laughing with each other.
