KATE MIDDLETON and Prince William will celebrate their 10 year wedding anniversary this month. On the big day, Kate wore some eye-catching pieces of jewellery.

Kate Middleton’s ring

Kate and Prince William announced their engagement on November 16, 2010.

The couple appeared for an interview and Kate showed off her eye-catching ring.

The sapphire and diamond jewel, which she regularly still wears, previously belonged to Princess Diana.

The ring could be one of Kate’s most “iconic” pieces of jewellery, according to head of diamonds and jewellery at Beaverbrooks Lorna Haddon.

She said: “Of course we have to start with Kate’s most iconic jewellery piece – this breath-taking engagement ring holds a stunning 12 carat oval blue sapphire, surrounded by fourteen smaller solitaire diamonds.

“The sapphire and diamonds are set in a slim 18 carat white gold band, which accentuates the central piece and draws the eye in to those incredible stones.”

The ring has been valued at up to £400,000, but it also has sentimental value.

“A family heirloom, Kate’s ring once belonged to Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, and has incredible sentimental value to the Prince,” Lorna continued.

“William explained that by Kate wearing his mother’s engagement ring, he felt that Diana was with them on their wedding day.”

Kate Middleton’s tiara

In line with royal tradition, the mother-of-three borrowed a tiara from the Queen’s collection and the jewel has previously been valued at up to £40million.

She wore the iconic Cartier Halo tiara which had special significance in the family.

The expert continued: “With her ‘something blue’ firmly covered by that incredible sapphire engagement ring, Kate wore an extraordinary halo tiara on her wedding day borrowed from none other than the Queen herself.

“Stooped in royal history, the piece was gifted to Her Majesty as an 18th-birthday present by George VI in the 1930s.”

She wore a pair of drop diamond earrings which were gifted to her by her parents, costing £15,000.

“She kept her jewellery choices for the big day very simple – as simple as can be when you’re wearing a royal tiara,” Lorna concluded.

“She teamed the headpiece with a gorgeous pair of pear-cut diamond drop gifted to her by her parents for her wedding day.

“[This was] an equally sentimental piece for her to walk down the aisle with.”

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
