Kate Middleton swaps ‘extravagant’ jewellery for ‘measured’ looks during lockdown

KATE MIDDLETON, 39, has appeared this week for a number of virtual engagements. What does her jewellery choices reveal during the coronavirus lockdown?

Kate Middleton and Prince William, 38, have changed how they carry out engagements during the coronavirus lockdown. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have appeared virtually to speak to members of the public.

With lockdown restrictions in place across the country, royals have turned to video calls to connect with the public.

This week, the Duchess of Cambridge spoke to a number of nurses at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust about their experiences during the crisis.

A few days earlier, she was joined by Prince William as they virtually met with more key workers and highlighted the importance of bereavement services.

This isn’t the first time the royals have headed online for engagements and they often made calls from their home during the first UK coronavirus pandemic last year.

Kate has always been commended for her fashion look and her appearances during lockdown have been no different.

As well as waiting to see what she is wearing, many royal fans are interested in her jewellery.

What could her jewellery choices during lockdown reveal?

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Head of Buying at Pure Collection Kate Stacey commented on Kate’s looks during the first lockdown.

She suggested the royal was sending a subtle message by making measured jewellery choices.

The expert commented: “Kate’s jewellery choices have been paired down during lockdown.

“She is sporting simple gold daytime earrings on her calls, over anything extravagant.”

As part of the Royal Family, Kate has access to some lavish royal jewellery.

In the past, she has stepped out wearing statement necklaces and regal tiaras.

However, the mother-of-three may have toned these looks down during the pandemic.

By doing this, Kate could be showing she understands how many are feeling during the pandemic and is showing her support.

The expert continued: “Her jewellery choices are measured anyway, as is her trademark style, but I think she truly understands the UK mood – it is not a time for statement jewellery.”

During her most recent appearance, Kate opted for a pair of gold and faux pearl earrings.

The earrings featured a chunky gold hoop with a pearl dangling from the end.

The jewels, by Simone Rocha, originally retailed for £225 but are now sold out.

She has been seen wearing them on a number of occasions in the last few months, including in a message released on her birthday.

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
