KATE MIDDLETON used to be described as the ’big sister he never had’ by Prince Harry, however, the friendship between the two appears to have changed. Here’s the real reason behind Prince Harry’s damaged relationship with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate Middleton is Prince Harry’s sister-in-law as the wife of Prince William. The friendship between the two goes all the way back to 2003, when Kate started dating William. In an interview with Newsweek, the Duke of Sussex even referred to Kate, Duchess of Cambridge as “the big sister he never had”.

The two have been spotted laughing and having fun together on multiple occasions, such as at the Heads Together campaign for mental health and at Trooping the Colour.

However, the two firm friends appear to have called off their once close friendship, and a royal expert has now given insight into what happened between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.

Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The endless rumours involving the Cambridges and the Sussexes continue unabated especially after Meghan’s guest editorship of Vogue and what was taken as implied criticism of Kate.

“The ‘Fab Four’ seems a very distant concept now and it seems strange that we all bought into what involved a newly married couple being neighbours with their in-laws, sharing offices and whose charitable work would be linked to the same Foundation. In reality this was probably never practical.

“The relations between William and Kate and Harry and Meghan have clearly become more distant as their future is so different.

“Harry is pursuing his agenda on climate change and Meghan is still on maternity leave.

“We have seen stage-managed appearances featuring Kate and Meghan such as that at Wimbledon.”

However, Mr Fitzwilliams noted that to what extent their once close friendship has been affected by recent events is a “matter for speculation”.

He also added Kate and Prince Harry still appreciate certain aspects of their friendship.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “Harry was close to Kate and in the Newsweek interview, where he claimed no royal actually wanted to ascend the throne, he talked of their friendship and is quoted as referring to her as the big sister he never had.

“Kate appreciates Harry’s mischievous side and he loves being an uncle too.”

Speculation over a split not just between Kate and Harry, but between their significant others started ahead of Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle last year.

The Duke of Sussex accused his brother and sister-in-law of not supporting his incoming bride, Meghan , ahead of their nuptials in May 2018.

According to Mail on Sunday, Prince Harry started a “showdown” with the two and “read them the riot act” one evening.

According to the publication, a source said Meghan maintained a “stony” silence throughout the speech.

However, they added the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge assured Prince Harry they were happy to support Meghan.
