KATE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE delighted staff and patients when she visited a children’s hospital in London on Tuesday. And one mum bonded with the Duchess by mentioning an awkward truth as she revealed her husband took nine years to propose – just like Prince William.
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge looked stylish as ever as she paid a visit to Evelina London’s Children’s hospital on Tuesday. The Duchess was there to attend a creative workshop put on by the National Portrait Gallery for patients and their parents.
Kate got stuck in with helping children craft projects and chatted to parents about the workshop. One of the mothers to meet Kate on the ward was Sarah Ibendahl, whose three-year-old son Benjamin is being treated for an auto-immune condition.
Sarah broke the ice with the Duchess by mentioning an awkward detail about Prince William.
She lightheartedly joked that she sympathised with Kate because her husband, like Prince William, had taken years to propose too.

Kate took the comment in good spirit and is said to have laughed it off.
After meeting the Duchess, Sarah said: “We also bonded over the fact it took our husbands like nine years before they asked us to marry them.
“When I mentioned it she laughed politely and gave a knowing smile.”
Prince William proposed to Kate in 2010 after nearly a decade of dating.
The lengthy wait earned Kate the unflattering nickname “Waity Katey”, which may still be a sore spot for the Duchess.

While the iconic ring is one of Kate’s staple accessories she left the ring off while visiting the hospital for health and safety reasons.
Kate looked as elegant as ever in a striking black boucle skirt suit by Dolce and Gabanna.
She paired the chic outfit with a pair of black suede block heels and delicate Mappin & Webb earrings.
While her skirt suite sent fans into a spin there was one element of Kate’s outfit which broke royal protocol.
According to royal custom, royal women should only wear nude stockings but Kate wore black tights on Tuesday.
She did, however, stick to royal custom by wearing subtle make-up and not having painted nails.
