KATE MIDDLETON could have missed out on marrying her real-life prince as the Duke of Cambridge is said to have been “falling in love” with the niece of Camilla Parker Bowles right before they met.
Trooping the Colour: Kate and Camilla fail to curtsy for Queen
Kate Middleton and Prince William met in 2001 while they were students at the University of St Andrews. The couple began dating in 2003 and became engaged some seven years later, on a trip to Kenya in 2010. Today, the royal power couple are married and have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. But Kate could have missed out on her royal fairytale if Prince William had pursued a relationship with Emma Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall’s niece, it has been claimed.
Just before Prince William met his future wife at university, he reportedly had his eye on Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall’s niece Emma Parker Bowles.
The Duke of Cambridge was only 17 at the time and the two were linked back in 1991, a royal author revealed.
Royal author Andrew Morton said in his 2011 book William and Catherine that the prince was romantically linked to Emma.
A palace insider said the future King of England would “gaze adoringly” at Emma, who was 25 at the time.

A source told the Sunday People in 1999: “He was looking lovingly at Emma and she was hanging on his every word.
“Sometimes he gazes at her so adoringly that it becomes a bit embarrassing. He looks every inch a young man who is falling in love.”
However, the chemistry between the two ended and Prince William later met Kate at the University of St Andrew’s.
The couple wed at Westminster Abbey in 2011, and surprisingly, the Duchess of Cornwall’s niece was invited.

Emma, who is now 44, told E! she was “surprised” to be invited to the royal wedding.
She said: “I was surprised because I know he didn’t invite a lot of people.
“I think he just started off as a nice person.
“You could see in that situation how he possibly could have turned out to be a real brat, but he couldn’t be further from that and has much more humility than a lot of people I know.”

Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have gone on to have three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Prince Louis, who was born on April 23, 2018, debuted his royal wave during Trooping the Colour this weekend, with his parents proudly showing him off to the world.
The whole Cambridge clan was present as the Royal Family celebrated the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, smiling and waving from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Meghan Markle also attended, in her first public appearance since giving birth to baby Archie Harrison last month.
