KATE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE, was conspicuously absent from royal crisis talks at the Sandringham summit on Monday. So why was Kate not there?

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are the women who will stand by the side of the future monarchs. But when the Queen called a historic Royal Family summit, these two women were not counted among the invited guests. Instead, only the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry were present, with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joining discussions via telephone from Canada. So why was Kate not allowed to join the important family meeting?

The Queen summoned senior royals to Sandringham on Monday for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the future roles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Last week Prince Harry and Meghan published a statement announcing their intention to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

The Sussex couple published the bombshell announcement on their popular Instagram account.

The statement revealed the couple wishes to “work to become financially independent” and intend to “balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America” in order to “enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

In the wake of the news, the Royal Family were said to be hurt by the couple’s announcement.

Reports surfaced claiming Prince Charles and Prince William were “incandescent with rage” according to the Sun.

Later more reports claimed the couple’s decision was motivated by William’s “bullying attitude”.

However, Prince Harry and Prince William later disavowed these claims in a joint statement which said: “Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge.

“For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.”

The meeting held at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk last two and a half hours, during which the family discussed several matters pertaining to the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In the unprecedented summit, the senior royals sat down together for “constructive talks”.

There are thought to be a range of possibilities for the family to review and final decisions will be made in the coming days, Buckingham Palace said.

After the meeting, the Queen shared the following emotional statement: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.

“Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

“Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

“It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

“These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

The attendees to the summit included the heads of each family, those born into the Royal Family, rather than those who were married into it.

Despite the royal women’s commitment to the Royal Family, they were not invited to the meeting at Sandringham.

The unprecedented Royal Family summit was, in fact, an exclusive event for the Queen and her heirs.

Prince Charles travelled back from Oman to attend the summit after he arrived on Sunday morning to attend the “first of three days of official condolences” following the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.

The meeting was the first time the Queen, Harry, Charles and William had been together since Remembrance Day weekend in early November.

In the coming days decisions will be made on the “complex matters” which need to be resolved before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex step back from royal duties.

These issues include: the couple’s funding, future earnings, royal duties, Frogmore cottage, royal titles, their housing, plans for the Sussex Foundation, the couple’s involvement with the media and security arrangements.

One particularly contentious issue is security which is estimated to cost around £1m per year.

Kensington Palace has been contacted for comment.
