Kate follows in Princess Diana’s footsteps: Times Kate channelled Diana’s style

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, has today followed in Princess Diana’s footsteps, stepping out in a lilac dress for the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit with Prince William, drawing comparisons to the People’s Princess.

The Duchess, 36, is the same age Diana was when she tragically died in a car crash in France in 1997.

Kate and Diana’s sense of style has often been compared, with remarkable pictures revealing similarities between the two women.

The purple dress Kate wore today is similar to a lilac suit Diana wore in 1997 during a visit to Washington, USA.

Kate previously wore the Emilia Wickstead dress in Hamburg, Germany, last July.

And it is not the first time the Duchess has channelled Diana with her fashion choices.

Kate, who has recently returned from maternity leave after the birth of her third child, also mirrored Diana when she left the hospital following the birth of Prince Louis.

The Duchess wore a red dress with a white collar when she left the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital following the birth of Prince Louis earlier this year.

The move was a touching tribute to Diana, as it was a replicate of the Princess’ look when she left the same hospital ward with a newborn Prince Harry in 1984.

Kate was inspired by Diana when she chose a polka dot dress for the opening of the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden in 2013.

The Princess wore a black and white spotted dress at Royal Ascot thirty years ago.

And when Kate and Prince William announced their engagement in 2010 Kate opted to wear a stunning blue dress. It was also the first time the Duchess revealed her ring to the public, which was the ring Prince Charles gave Diana when they became engaged.

The Duchess looks identical to Diana, who wore blue when she was pictured with Charles following their engagement in 1981.

The royals have both worn matching green outfits. Kate was pictured in the Jenny Packham coat in March 2018, copying Diana’s look from 1996.

Kate wore a glamorous black velvet dress when she attended The Sun Military Awards in 2011.

The look was close to the daring black dress Diana wore at the Serpentine Gallery in 1994, which has been described as the “revenge dress” after Charles admitted his infidelity in a documentary which aired that night.

Kate wore a necklace much like the Princess’ pearl and sapphire choker.

The Duchess looked pretty in pink during a visit to Coventry Cathedral this year, channelling Diana when the Princess wore a similar shade, with button details, in 1990.

And Kate dazzled in bright yellow at Wimbledon in July. The look was borrowed from Diana’s dress she wore during a tour to Australia in 1983.
