KATE, Duchess of Cambridge, helped serve breakfast to children this morning at a nursery in South London – as she continues her tour across the UK to discuss her Early Years project.

Kate surprised parents on the school run this morning by paying an unannounced visit to the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) Stockwell Gardens Nursery and Pre-School. The Duchess of Cambridge was all smiles as she arrived to the institute and was greeted by members of the school’s staff before serving breakfast to children and meeting people working every day with them.

During the visit, Kate learned more about the importance of feeding youngsters only nutritious, healthy meals.

Speaking to apprentices based at the LEYF Early Years Chef Academy, the Duchess discussed the impact good food has on developing children.

Today’s visit aims to continue to shine a light on the nationwide survey called ‘Five Big Questions On The Under Fives’, launched by Kate herself.

Last week, the Duchess undertook a 24-hour dash across the UK to launch a landmark poll, looking into childhood development.

As she visited MiniBrum at ThinkTank, Birmingham Science Museum, Ely and Careau Children’s Centre in Cardiff and HMP Send, Kate invited the country to answer five questions which aim to “spark a national conversation” and help create “lasting change for generations to come”, Kensington Palace said.

The online survey asks participants for their opinion on what influences youngsters’ development and what period of childhood they believe to be the most important for children’s happiness.

The survey will run until February 21 and, as Kate herself revealed, more than 100,000 people have already completed it.

Speaking at today’s engagement, Kate said: “It’s great to visit places like this where communities come together to support one another.

“Last week I launched a UK wide survey on early childhood because I want to hear society’s views about raising the next generation.

“I’m so happy that over 100,000 people from all across the UK have already completed it, and I can’t wait to see the results.”

The early years and how the first five years of life can have an impact on the development of children have been one of the major focuses of the royal work carried out by Kate in the past years.

In May 2018, the Duchess created a steering group of experts to focus on how to bring about positive, lasting change in this area.

For her important surprise visit, Kate chose to wear a teal coat, a cream roll-neck, black jeans and ankle boots with her hair styled in her signature blow-dried waves.

This engagement comes one day after the Duchess’ visit to Evelina London Children’s Hospital in Lambeth.

Kate saw first-hand how two of her patronages teamed up to improve the wellbeing and creativity of children in hospital.

After meeting members of the hospital’s staff, parents and little patients, Kate joined a creative workshop set up by the National Portrait Gallery.

There, she helped children crafting little paper puppets and other decorations.

Kate was also given two paper wreath, one red and one pink, created by a 10-year-old heart patient and his four-year-old sister.

The Duchess, moved by the gesture, said she would definitely put the pink wreath in Princess Charlotte’s bedroom.

Kate has already carried out several engagements this month – the first one taking place in Bradford.

Kate has also been, together with her husband Prince William, the host of the reception, taking place at Buckingham Palace, marking the UK-Africa Investment Summit.
