PRINCE HARRY opened up about Meghan Markle’s first Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham, in a 2017 interview with BBC.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not join the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the rest of the Royal Family for Christmas this year. Instead, they will spend the holidays with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. It is unclear whether this will be in the US, in California, or at their home at Frogmore Cottage, Windsor.
The couple are taking a six-week break from royal duties, which will start after Prince Harry’s last engagemnt on Sunday. It was thought they would spend Thanksgiving in the US with Doria and return for Christmas at Sandringham.
However, this week they informed Her Majesty they will not be joining her for the festive period.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said: “I think it’s sad they don’t want to be part of the family gathering, particularly now that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are in their dotage.
“The Queen might be a little hurt but she’s far too gracious to ever let it show or be known.”

Harry has always spent Christmas at the Queen’s Norfolk home, except for 2012 when he was in Afghanistan — and for the past two years he has been joined by Meghan.
As royal fans are left wondering whether a rift is deepening, a 2017 interview with Prince Harry reveals how Meghan really felt during her first year at Sandringham.
Two years ago, Prince Harry guested-edited BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, where he interviewed former US President Barack Obama and sat for an interview himself.
The first topic of conversation was his first Christmas with at the time fiancé Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry revealed it was “fantastic”.
He said: “She really enjoyed it. The family loved having her there.
“There’s always that family part of Christmas, there’s always that work element as well.
“And I think together we had an amazing time.”

Harry also revealed that he and Meghan stayed with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, likely at their country estate, Anmer Hall.
Anmer Hall is just 2 miles from Sandringham, where the royals spent Christmas with the Queen.
“We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running around with the kids,” Prince Harry said of spending Christmas day with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. “Christmas was fantastic.”
