MEGHAN MARKLE and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, are “intentionally paying respect” to late Princess Diana with their fashion choices, one expert told Express.co.uk.
Meghan and Kate have been spotted channelling Princess Diana with their outfits multiple times, and often on important occasions. This decision of taking a leaf out of the late Princess of Wales’ book isn’t just a fashion choice, according to Anthony McGrath, celebrity stylist and lecturer at the Fashion Retail Academy in London. Princess Diana became an international fashion icon between the 1980s and 1990s, and her style surely provides “ample sartorial inspiration” to both Kate and Meghan on a daily basis.
However, Mr McGrath said, it is highly likely that the Duchess of Sussex and Cambridge are homaging the memory of their late mother-in-law.
He told Express.co.uk: “As one the most-loved style icons of the 80s, it’s not surprising that Princess Diana’s fashion sense has provided the Duchesses of Sussex and of Cambridge ample sartorial inspiration.
“While I do think the Duchess’ choices are to do with fashion, I also think some of their choices are intentionally paying respect to their late mother-in-law.”

The fact that both Kate and Meghan wore outfits very similar to Princess Diana’s for meaningful occasions is even more telling, according to the expert.
He continued: “Take Kate Middleton’s outfit choices after giving birth, for example.
“She certainly paid homage to Princess Diana when she introduced Prince George to the world in a polka dot Jenny Packham dress.

“Diana, too, wore polka dots when she introduced her first child, Prince William, to the world.
“Kate continued this trend for her second son, Prince Louis, when she stood on the steps of the Lindo Wing in a red Jenny Packham dress that mirrored the outfit Princess Diana wore for her first appearance with Prince Harry.
”Kate also channelled her late mother-in-law when she dropped off Princess Charlotte to her first day of school earlier this year.
“The Duchess looked stunning in a pink floral dress similar to the ensemble Diana wore to drop off Prince Harry at school in 1992.

“I personally think it’s a nice touch to honour Princess Diana on such memorable occasions.”
Similarly, Meghan “paid tribute” to Diana by wearing outfits inspired by the Princess of Wales at important events – including Sunday’s National Service of Remembrance.
On that solemn, occasion, the stylish Duchess donned a £1,545 black Stella McCartney wool coat with an oversized belt on the morning of the service.
The Duchess of Sussex kept accessories to the bare minimum, pairing the coat with a wide-brim hat featuring a leather ribbon and black gloves.
Princess Diana adopted a similar outfit on another National Service of Remembrance, in 1991.

Mr McGraph said: ”The Duchess of Sussex also pays tribute to Princess Diana through her fashion choices.
“Think back to the beginning of this year when Meghan opted for a colour block number on a visit to Birkenhead.
“This colour palette was similar to the vibrant red and purple Princess Diana wore during a visit to Hong Kong in 1989.
“She also paid homage to her late mother-in-law during her first Royal Ascot trip when she opted for a classic black and white ensemble, echoing a similar outfit worn by Diana to the races.

“It seems unfair to me that while both Duchess’ frequently channel Princess Diana’s style, only Meghan receives harsh judgement from the public.
“I think both Duchess’ are royal style icons in their own right.
“They are setting the tone for stately dressing worldwide, and they do so by showing subtle nods to the late Princess.
“By embracing the fashion world and Princess Diana’s often daring style, Kate and Meghan have learned how to balance trends with tradition, and it’s nice to see that they are keeping tradition alive.”
