How Kate Middleton and Prince William’s late dog Lupo helped pick Prince George’s name

KATE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE and Prince William have expressed their sadness following the death of their beloved dog Lupo. Here’s how the black spaniel helped them pick Prince George’s name.

Kate and William’s official Instagram account shared a photo of nine-year-old Lupo on Sunday with a personal message from the royal couple.

The post read: “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away.

“He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W & C.”

Lupo’s influence on the Cambridge clan was such that he even helped Kate and William pick a name for their eldest son Prince George, seven.

How Lupo helped pick Prince George’s name

Ahead of Prince George’s birth, there was huge speculation around what Britain’s next heir may be called and it seems William and Kate struggled to decide on a name.

According to the Mirror, the couple enlisted the help of Lupo.

They reportedly placed the paper at different spots in their house and whichever ones their Cocker Spaniel put his paw on, were the names they would go with.

According to a source, things were tricky as the pair did not know the sex of their baby at the time.

The insider said: “No one knows which ones Lupo chose.

“But the names have been so varied that the child could end quite mixed up.

They added: “They could be called Victoria Alexandra George David Beckham.”

The palace did not confirm or deny the story surrounding George’s name at the time.

Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, and his name is thought to be a tribute to his great-great-grandfather King George VI.

Royal watchers shared their sympathies with Will and Kate on social media, following news of Lupo’s death.

Royal author and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward tweeted: “Very sad news that Lupo- The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s 9-year-old cocker spaniel passed away last weekend.

“Dogs are part of the family and losing one is heartbreaking.”

Kate and Prince Willian have kept up with royal duty despite the current nationwide lockdown.

On Saturday the took part in a video call with Future Men Uk fatherhood charity.

The Kensington Palace Twitter account shared a clip of the meeting.

The caption read:  “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met beneficiaries of @FutureMenUK ’s Fathers Programmes, which help fathers develop their confidence as parents at every stage of their child’s development.”
