The author, who has penned “Meghan: Misunderstood” claims Prince Harry was treated with derision over his relationship with Meghan, who he was set up with on a blind date by a mutual friend. Mr Smith claimed Harry was treated badly at the time when he asked for less criticism of his future wife.
Mr Smith referred to Prince Harry’s statement to the media in November 2016.
The statement claimed a line had been crossed. It read: ” His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
Mr Smith claimed the now Duke of Sussex was met with “derision” for this statement.
He told TV presenter Lorraine: “When Harry tries to ask for a bit of a pause because of all the negative things that are being said about the new woman in his life he gets treated with derision.”

He went on: “I don’t think she is treated seriously enough.
“I discovered that she had been on a journey to become a woman of substance.”
“She was a very serious person before she met Prince Harry.
“Prince Harry doesn’t come into my book until about page 175.
“By then she was a woman who had received a standing ovation, led by the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon.
“I wanted to show she hadn’t been given a fair crack at the whip.”
Meghan Markle attended Remembrance Day with Prince Harry recently in Los Angeles.
