Happy Birthday, Prince Harry! A Look at the Ginger Prince’s 5 Cheekiest Moments
When he was a child, Princess Diana gave her son Harry the following advice: “Be naughty, but don’t get caught.” And, for the past 33 years, boy, has the Ginger Prince taken that to heart—well, as anyone who’s been to TMZ knows, maybe he hasn’t quite figured out the last part.
But despite all the pomp and circumstance, Prince Harry brought his wild side into his official royal duties. In honor of the Ginger Prince’s birthday, here’s a look at his five cheekiest public moments.
The Time He “Beat” Usain Bolt
In 2012, while the royal was on an official visit to Jamaica, Olympian Usain Bolt challenged him to a race at his hometown track. Harry, however, played dirty. While getting someone to distract the world’s fastest man, he jumped the gun and laughed all the way to the finish line.
Bolt suggested a rematch at the London Olympic Games, but the cheeky royal replied, “I’m busy.”
The Time He Gave the Best Description of Prince George
How did Prince Harry describe his nephew Prince George to a British radio station? Cute? Adorable? Well-behaved? Nope. He instead compared him to an old man, saying, “he has big, chubby cheeks. He looks like a young Winston Churchill.”
To be fair, he was talking about the very toddler who met President Obama in a matching bathrobe and slippers set.
The Time He Fanboyed Over Star Wars
Prince Harry doesn’t mind waving his geek flag high. While touring the Star Wars: The Last Jedi set, he had a lightsaber duel with his brother, roughhoused with Chewbacca, and even reportedly filmed a cameo as a Stormtrooper.
The Time He Went to the South Pole
Little is known about Prince Harry’s trip to the South Pole (thinking it was maybe a bit tricky, with the subzero temperatures at all). But trek-mate Dominic West told The Telegraph that he made “eye-wateringly rude jokes” and built comically elaborate latrines. “He did one with castellated sides and a flag pole, a loo roll holder, and you’re sitting there thinking ‘this is a real royal flush.’ He must have spent about 40 minutes making it.”
The Time He Sparred on Social Media With the Obamas
In 2016, Prince Harry teamed up with Barack and Michelle Obama to promote the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded servicemen and servicewomen, in Orlando. Except they didn’t do any ordinary PSA—they had a social media “war.”
After the Obamas tweeted a video of themselves with American soldiers, saying “boom” and imitating a mic drop, Prince Harry tweeted back with his own. But he had a secret weapon: the Queen of England. After watching the Obamas, she responded “ ‘Boom,’ really? Please.” Prince Harry smiles and then did a mic drop of his own.
As the prince now takes on more royal responsibilities, it seems like there will be many more cheeky moments to come. Now, hopefully, Meghan Markle can keep up!
