Has The Crown revealed the TRUTH behind Kate Middleton and Diana’s engagement ring?
KATE MIDDLETON and Princess Diana wore the same engagement ring, now a family heirloom. But, was the ring a gift from the Queen Mother? The Crown season two appeared to show the Queen Mother wearing the same ring – despite claims Diana’s ring was bought from Garrard.
Princess Diana’s engagement ring was given to Kate Middleton by Prince William when he proposed.
The ring is a stunning blue sapphire surrounded by sparkling diamond on a band of gold and has become one of the most iconic pieces of royal jewellery.
Now a scene from Netflix royal drama The Crown has caused suspicion that the ring may have been handed down from the Queen Mother.
One scene shows the Queen Mother wearing a strikingly similar ring. However, Princess Diana’s engagement ring was said to be bought from Garrard of Mayfair, and was selected from a catalogue, so how is this possible?
In the sixth episode of the second season of the crown, the Queen Mother is seen in discussion with her husband Prince George and Winston Churchill.
The Queen Mother, played by Victoria Hamilton, puts her hands on the shoulders of her husband, played by Jared Harris.
A shining square cut ring with a dark stone ringed by diamonds is seen on her left hand.
The sighting has caused a lot of confusion among viewers.
The ring shown in the episode of The Crown, though similar to Princess Diana and Kate Middleton’s, was actually given by George VI to his wife the Queen Mother, then known as Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
Also known as the Kashmir sapphire ring, the ring featured an enormous sapphire and a cluster of sparkling diamonds.
The ring was given to the Queen Mother as her first engagement ring, however, she later abandoned the ring for the enormous art deco diamond ring that Camilla Parker Bowles now wears.
The ring is also very similar to one in another sapphire set, which was bought at Carrington & Co. and was given to the Queen by her father as a wedding gift in 1947.

This set featured a necklace, earrings, brooch and ring with emerald cut sapphires set in gold.
