Queen and Prince William in emotional meeting with Grenfell Tower fire victims
The Queen and Prince William have met emergency services, residents and volunteers affected by the horrors of the Grenfell Tower fire.
Her Majesty and the Duke of Cambridge visited the Westway Sports Centre in west London to pay their respects after a raging inferno ripped through the 24-storey block of flats in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Wearing bright royal blue, the Queen greeted officials from the police and fire services.
The sports and fitness centre was turned into a refuge for residents evacuated from the flats and left destitute by the blaze, which has left 17 people dead.
Gymnastic mats were laid out on the floor of the main fall, as organisers tried to make it a home for people devastated by the horrors.
The visit comes after the Queen visited victims of the Manchester terror attack in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Speaking openly, the 91-year-old monarch descried the atrocity as “wicked”.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge joined youngsters at a marine-themed roadshow today to learn about the challenges faced by Sir Ben Ainslie’s ultimately unsuccessful British America’s Cup challenge.
