The American president is finishing off his state visit to the U.K. with an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Southsea Common in Portsmouth.

On the third day of his state visit to the U.K., Donald Trump traveled to Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. At the event, which featured a retelling of D-Day through performance, testimonials, and military displays, the American President was be accompanied by his wife Melania, the Queen, and the Prince of Wales. In total, the political leaders of 16 countries involved in World War II were in attendance. Later in the day, the Queen and Prince Charles will say goodbye to Trump, who will then depart from England.

Today, the political leaders of 16 countries involved in World War II joined the Queen in Portsmouth for a service to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.2

The leaders also signed a historic peace statement ahead of the anniversary. “In this way we salute the surviving veterans of D-Day and we honour the memories of those who came before us,” says the declaration.3

President Trump, who is on the last day of his three-day state visit to the U.K. was of course there with his wife Melania.4

“When I attended the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, some thought it might be the last such event,” Queen Elizabeth said in her speech this morning. “But the wartime generation—my generation—is resilient, and I am delighted to be with you in Portsmouth today.”6

Theresa May read a letter written by Captain Norman Skinner of the Royal Army Service Corps, who was killed after landing at Sword Beach on June 6.8
