PRINCE Charles can’t wait to play “doting grandfather” to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal baby after Kate and Prince William shut him out of Prince George’s life, it has been sensationally claimed.
The future king is “determined not to repeat mistakes from his family’s past” after complaining about feeling “excluded” from his first grandson’s life, according to royal reports. Prince Charles was said to have been “cold and distant” while the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents, Carole and Mike Middleton, were “always on hand”. A friend told The Sun: “At the time Prince George was born, Charles was less easy in the role of a grandfather.
“But now he welcomes each new arrival with a wider grin and even more open arms. He loves the happy chaos of it all.”
Prince Charles is said to have formed a firm friendship with his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle after walking her down the aisle, in place of her father Thomas Markle, who couldn’t fly to the UK due to health implications.
While the duchess’ arrival on the royal scene has also helped improve Prince Harry’s relationship with Charles, a source has claimed.
Harry proposed to Meghan Markle in November 2017, months after the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death when feelings were running high between Charles and his sons.
The Sun’s royal correspondent Emily Andrews wrote: “When the Sussexes’ baby arrives next month, Charles can again play the doting grandfather.
“This caring and cuddly Charles is determined not to repeat mistakes from his family’s past.
“Five years ago it was very different. Charles is said to have complained about feeling excluded from Prince George’s life, saying he “almost never” got to see William and Kate’s first child.
“The perception was that while Kate’s parents Mike and Carole Middleton were almost always on hand, Charles was cold and distant.”
