Camilla’s shock admission SHE will be Queen, insider’s sensational claims on royal future

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, believes she will become Queen when husband Prince Charles takes to the throne and is not threatened by the presence of popular Kate, according to sensational claims in a royal book.

Camilla, 70, reportedly bragged she would be the first “commoner Queen”, ahead of the Duchess of Cambridge, when Prince Charles is named King following the death of his mother, the Queen.

Despite Prince Charles fears his son, Prince William and Kate are taking the limelight, Camilla “doesn’t give a damn”, according to royal author Tom Bower.

In the Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, Mr Bower wrote: “For her part, Camilla was unconcerned about Kate taking the limelight.

“She didn’t give a damn,’ noted Robert Higdon, chief executive of Charles’s charity foundation in America.

“But Charles saw Kate and William as the new stars and feared he’d be in trouble.

“Camilla also dismissed the presumption that Kate would be the first commoner Queen. ‘That’ll be me,’ she’d say with a laugh.”

The explosive claims comes after it was suggested Prince Charles could step aside to let his son, Prince William take the reins.

A shock survey revealed almost half of Britons want Prince William to become the next monarch after Queen Elizabeth II rather than his 69-year-old father, Charles.

But the prince is said to be desperate to serve his country as head of state.

Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005 and some believe that he intends to make her Queen Camilla one day.

This would mark a reversal of a previous plan, dating back to their 2005 marriage, to style her as Princess Consort instead.

A Sunday Express poll has found the majority of Britain will not accept Camilla becoming Queen.

As many as 67 per cent of those questioned opposed this move and only 19 per cent believed she is fit for the role.

Royal sources also suggest Princes William and Harry may not allow Charles to make Camilla his Queen.

Courtiers believe Charles would need the backing of his sons to make her his Queen, rather than “Princess Consort”.

But it is unclear whether William or Harry would offer any such support.

However, Camilla has cemented her place in the Royal Family in recent years and the Queen even elevated her to the Privy Council in June 2016.

The Queen’s promotion of Camilla was seen by many as a possible signal that her son and heir intends to make her Queen Camilla.

But her title will not be officially confirmed until his accession.

At this point, Charles will also reveal if he plans to take on another name as King. George VII has been suggested by some commentators.

Express.co.uk contacted Clarence House, who said they are not commenting on claims made in Mr Bower’s royal book.

It comes after Mr Bower revealed Prince William was furious to discover Prince Charles was planning for royal aides to snub Kate’s mother Carole Middleton in a scheme organised over fears he would be isolated from his grandchildren.
