‘Begging for a royal wedding invite?’ Ivanka Trump trolled for wishing Prince Harry and Meghan on Twitter
Kensington Palace announced the wedding date of Prince Harry and Meghan as 19 May 2018.
With another royal wedding on the cards, celebrities, both in the US and the UK, took to social media to congratulate the soon-to-be husband and wife Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But Ivanka Trump’s best wishes for the engaged couple did not go down well with the fans of the British royal family.
“Wishing Meghan and Prince Harry a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness together,” the 36-year-old daughter of US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter. “I have no doubt that this couple will do extraordinary things, both individually and collectively. Congratulations!”.
However, soon after she posted the congratulatory message, the special assistant to President Trump received heaps of criticism on the micro-blogging site, with some even accusing her of trying to “fish” an invite for the royal wedding. She was also trolled for the delayed message.
“Stop fishing for an invite,” one internet user scathingly replied to Ivanka’s tweet. “Don’t be so thirsty. You still aren’t getting an invite,” said a second one.
“It’s so transparent that you’re practically begging for a royal wedding invite. Not gonna happen, princess,” taunted the third one.
The British royal family announced on 27 November that the loved-up couple got engaged after approximately 18 months of dating. However, Ivanka missed congratulating the duo on their special day and her twitter post came on the day of the announcement of their wedding date.
“They announced this a while ago, geez you are slow, and I don’t mean in a movement way,” wrote one Twitter user as another added, “WOW where have you been? and NO you are NOT invited- Parliament voted to NOT have daddy come visit -do you know how bad that is? oh wait Jared is soon gonna find out.”
Kensington Palace announced on Friday (15 December) that the engaged couple will exchange their wedding vows on 19 May 2018. “His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle,” the announcement read.
Venting out their dislike for the new US president, some teased Ivanka — a mother-of-three — that the British royal family will invite former US president Barack Obama and his family, but not the current first family.
“That’s so sweet. I hear the Obama’s already got their “Save The Date” card. This will be the last truly grand royal wedding we’ll see in our lifetime. Shame none of the Trumps will get an invite,” wrote one internet user. “The Obama’s are invited. Your family is NOT!!! Stop trying to score an invite,” another user wrote.
It will be interesting to see if the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh extend an invitation to the Trump family. If they do, it might be awkward for Markle, who had previously said she would move to Canada if Trump became the US president.
“It’s really the moment that I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada. I mean come on, if that’s reality we are talking about, come on, that is a game changer in terms of how we move in the world here,” Markle had said on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in May 2016, ahead of the 8 November 2016 presidential election.
